Replying by hand

The same Instagram limits apply to you as to your automations.

You can reply to anything in your inbox yourself. This is the most important thing to know about it:

A message you type is subject to exactly the same Instagram limits as one an automation sends. The limits belong to Instagram, not to dmrabbit, so being the human does not lift them.

On a direct message

You can reply within 24 hours of their last message to you. After that Instagram refuses the send, and there is no way to reopen it from your side. Only a new message from them starts the clock again.

On a comment thread

You have two choices:

  • Reply publicly - a comment under theirs, visible to everyone.
  • Reply privately - a direct message answering that comment. Instagram allows one per comment, within seven days.

If an automation already sent a private reply to that comment, the one allowed message is used up.

Manual replies count towards your plan

They use the same monthly allowances as automated ones: a public reply uses a comment reply, and anything sent as a DM uses a message.

Nothing is added to what you write

The line that dmrabbit adds to automated DMs on the Free plan is never added to a message you type. What you write is what is sent.
